Latin American, Caribbean, and Canadian MPs Meet with Members of the US House of Representatives
Strengthening Regional Ties Through Legislative Dialogue on Trade, Security, and Development
On March 26, Members of Parliament from Latin American, Caribbean, and Canadian countries joined a roundtable on Capitol Hill with bipartisan Members of Congress, hosted by ParlAmericas in collaboration with House Democracy Partnership (HDP).
Representatives who addressed MPs included:
HDP Ranking Member Rep. Dina Titus [D, NV]
Dr. Neal Dunn [R, FL]
Rep. Robin Kelly [D, IL]
Rep. Delia Ramirez [D, IL]
Rep. Adrian Smith [R, NE]
The delegation of MPs from a range of parties were in DC to discuss regional cooperation and security and to prepare for the upcoming Summit of the Americas. Throughout their week in DC, they also met with civil society and the Organization of American States. Members discussed the importance of regional cooperation and maintaining relationships among legislatures in the region. The discussion touched on topics of trade, migration, and development.

The delegation was organized by ParlAmericas, an institution composed of 35 national legislatures from North, Central, and South America, and the Caribbean that promotes parliamentary diplomacy in the inter-American system. And they were hosted at the Capitol by the House Democracy Partnership, a bipartisan commission of the US House of Representatives that works to advance US economic and security interests by fostering stable, effective governance in key regions worldwide. Led by Chair Rep. Vern Buchanan [R, FL] and Ranking Member Dina Titus [D, NV], HDP promotes accountability, transparency, and legislative capacity. HDP creates environments that support economic growth, strengthen regional security, and reinforce partnerships that benefit the United States.
